'One Love'

GUITAR (overdriven sound)

Some people view this single as a bit of a let down. In my opinion it was definitely the direction they should have exploited a bit more. Having said that, I can understand why Reni might have felt a bit redundant with the drum loops etc. But his overdubs and extra percussion parts add even more life to the track in my opinion. The guitar was noticeably more processed here, but it sounded wild and full of energy to my ears. As for the extended guitar solo on the 12" version, well.... it is probably the most creative use of pentatonics I have ever seen/heard.

I actually used my pink strat set on the bridge pickup to get this sound, so the example given in the screen dump below will suit single coil guitars. However, now that I have my custom jaguar I will probably re-do this sound so you can get an accurate sound using a guitar with humbuckers. Non POD users should aim for a bit of overdrive (via the amp or stomp box), a fair amount of chorus, about a 400msec delay and a touch of reverb. I have had a brief jam along with the track using the pod and custom jag to see how the sound faired. From what I can remember if you just add a bit more treble and maybe knock the bass down a bit, this should give you something close for humbucking guitars. This sound should do you for most of the song excluding possibly the solo where you might want to put a bit more distortion on.

Although you can use various different outputs for amplifying your POD, I just used a pair of JVC HA-D616 headphones. This way I knew the speakers or stereo wouldn't be colouring the sound from the pod.

(Attention: All pod users!!!)

If you are new to POD and the soundiver software that comes with it, then don't worry. There are a lot of settings on here, but even if you don't know how to work your editing software yet, you should still be able to get close just by turning the dials to roughly the same placement as shown here.

Hope you enjoy this setting!!

(If you come up with a pod sound that you think is more accurate, feel free to drop me a mail and I'll check it out.)
