THE STONE ROSES
BLACKPOOL LIVE

Windsong, 58 mins

While The Stone Roses set about buying Manchester with their £2 million advance from Geffen, Silvertone, their former record label, look for ways of recouping the £1 million they lost trying to hold onto them. Hence the release of the this video of their 1989 concert at Blackpool Empress Ballroom which might rake in a few quid, but, critically, is one rung down from a car boot sale. It's hard to believe that 4,000 Roses fans are in attendance as audience contribution is limited to the odd desultory "Manchester la-la-la" and the camera focuses almost exclusively on Ian Brown, a poor choice given his advanced state of out-of-itness and his atonal crucifixions of most of the songs. Maybe you had to be there, but maybe if you were, you wouldn't want to remember it like this.
