NME - early 1997

Seahorses: and they're off !

THE SEAHORSES have announced their first UK and Irish tour and full details of their debut album.

The tour kicks off on April 23 at Wolverhampton Wulfrun Hall, before it goes to Newcastle Riverside (25), Glasgow Garage (26), Liverpool L2 (27), Sheffield Leadmill (29), Northampton Roadmender (30), Dublin The Castle supporting Beck (May 3) and Belfast Limelight (4).

The band also headline the NME Stage at this year's T In The Park festival in Kinross, Scotland, on Sunday, July 13, and appear for the first time on TV on TFI Friday next month.

Formed by guitarist John Squire after he left The Stone Roses in March 1996. The Seahorses have so far only played three gigs in Britain - all of them secret - and one in the US.

The band's debut album, 'Do It Yourself', recorded in LA with legendary producer Tony Visconti, will be released on May 27. The full tracklisting is:

I Want You To Know
Blinded By The Sun
Suicide Drive
The Boy In The Picture
Love Is The Law
Happiness Is Eggshaped
Love Me And Leave Me (co-written by John Squire and Liam Gallagher)
Round The Universe
1999
Standing On Your Head
Hello

As with The Stone Roses, Squire created the cover art for the record - a 3D map of the world.

"I made America a black hole," he told Microsoft Central Online's Internet music site.

Album track 'Love Is The Law' is being released as the band's debut single on April 28. The title is a reference to English occultist Aleister Crowley's maxim, "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law, love is the law, love under will". Crowley was a major inspiration to Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, to whom Squire has recently been compared. The single is backed with two extra tracks, 'Dreamer' and 'Sale Of The Century' which do not appear on the album.
