Whispers

You're waking in the morning
Spent the night trying to bond with the moon
She never loved you
Just the hot wired, two seat, drop top, split screen, dream machine
An alibi for love's young dream

I hear a lot of rumours
I hear a lot of stone cold rumours
I hear a lot of whispers
I hear a lot of easy talking, given whispers
About you

She only wanted you
For what you could do to get her picture in a Sunday magazine
She's just a hot wired, two seat, drop top, split screen, dream machine
An alibi for love's young dream

I hear a lot of rumours
I hear a lot of stone cold rumours
I hear a lot of whispers
I hear a lot of easy talking, given whispers
About you

I hear a lot of rumours
I hear a lot of stone cold rumours
I hear a lot of whispers
I hear a lot of easy talking, given whispers

What a pleasure it is to receive
And what a God given gift it is the air that we breathe

I hear a lot of rumours
I hear a lot of stone cold rumours
I hear a lot of whispers
I hear a lot of easy talking, given whispers
About you

I hear a lot of rumours
I hear a lot of whispers
And they're all about you

Details:
Whispers is the strongest track on Music Of The Spheres in my opinion.

Brown has covered Billie Jean and Thriller by Michael Jackson, and I think that 'Smooth Criminal' is very much an influence here. The first of these clips is from Whispers, the second from Smooth Criminal:

The use of 'She' at the start of sentences and words ending in the sound '-een' at the end is reminiscent of Billie Jean:

There is an intentional vague pronunciation at 3.25 and 3.34. Is he saying "And they're all about you" or "I know all about you" ? Both are viable.

When you are watching the Whispers video, look out for one particular clip of Ian walking towards the camera. He is 'frozen' momentarily and then appears just in front of the camera. I think that he is recreating an effect from Madonna's 'Like A Virgin' video, where Madonna walks towards the camera, appears to be 'frozen', then is situated in front of the camera via some studio trickery. See the Bubbles and El Mundo Pequeno pages for the influence of Madonna on Ian's solo career.

A promo video for Whispers was also shot. The film, Ian's directorial debut, shows him walking through woods in a disturbed mental state, carrying an axe on his shoulder. He then stumbles upon a pile of logs and starts to chop away at them like a man possessed.
